What can I say about this to that you can see when you meet them. They are to two happiest couples you will meet.  Fun, loving, & “childish” but only in the sense that we are both still kids at heart.   Katlen has been planning this for over a year.   Their love story started back in high school they were just friends and became best friends as the years when on through High School. “It wasn’t until our freshmen year of college that we started liking each other.” Katelyn.   Who would've known that when that 1st date at The Oasis in on traves lake in TX. Would be the last 1st date.

How you got engaged? “He proposed in Rhode Island the weekend of his graduation from Officer Candidate School.  We went to a pre-graduation dinner. He and his parents were both acting super weird, so I knew something was up, but I wasn’t quite sure yet. We rushed out of his dinner as the sun was setting. We drove past the hotel we were staying at and I really knew something was going on. His dad took us to this beautiful spot that overlooked the water and then I saw my parents standing under a gazebo. Daniel began saying how every day before “chow” he would look out to this spot, and this is where he pictured asking me to spend the rest of our lives together. The rest was history from there :)” - Katelyn.

The Bride & Groom:  Daniel graduated from Texas A&M University with a Petroleum Engineering degree and is now currently serving in the United States Navy. Katelyn just graduated with her Masters in Accountancy and is studying for the CPA exams. She has passed three and will take the other after the wedding.

Wedding day:  Daniel Ochsner and Katelyn Nyland pick a beautiful garden wedding location at the Hummingbird House in Austin TX   5 1/2 lush tropical acres with magnificent landscape lighting. There colors Buch, White, pink, roses gold, and Navy.  All the flowers were done by Zuzu’s Petals Katelyn choose white stock flowers, "quicksand" roses, white veronica, "patience" garden roses, white dahlias, "strawberry milkshake" lisianthus, and white ranunculus in her bouquet.

Katelyn decided to do a first look with her dad at the last minute and is we heartfelt.

There out the day of the wedding, the song “I am 16 going on 17” from the sound of music kept doing through my head. Maybe it was because of the jasmine covered gazebo or that he was in dress whites.  Or that they have been friends when they were 16 & 17 but either way it was a magical time. At the end of the night, they existed with sparklers and go into a TX big limo.

Unique Desserts your wedding guest will love https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2021/3/unique-desserts Are you looking to do something unique on the dessert table for your wedding? Even though wedding cake and grooms cake, are a big highlight during your reception not everybody is crazy about buttercream icing and fluffy cake.

It's always fun to take your guests on a journey and have some sweet treats available for them. Some things to think about what was the first sweet treat you had together? Ice cream, donuts, or peach cobbler, etc.

Scouring the internet trying to find unique different things to have on your dessert table at your wedding. Some things to take into consideration when picking different desserts are what time of year are you getting married? If you're getting married at the beginning of December, ice cream may not go over as well as it does in a June wedding. Also, it's a good idea to think about different flavors you can incorporate for the different seasons. By talking to a baker or a patisserie chef they can guide you in some delicious treats, not only beautiful they are unique and different.

Doing something fun and different like this, you can have an assorted dessert on display!

  1. Florentine cookie - ClassicTuscan cookies. They're nutty, lacy and crisp, as well as deceptively simple to make. Drizzling them with chocolate turns them into the perfect wedding indulgence
  2. Macaroons / Macaroons coconut
  3. Petit Fours - finger cakes or also known as tea cakes
  4. Gourmet Doughnuts  (glazed, chocolate, sprinkles, cake donuts, bear claws)
  5. Cupcakes or Cake Pops
  6. Cotton Candy
  7. Mini Pies - (Key Lime, Barry, pumpkin, pecan, apple)
  8. Mini Cobbler - (peach, Barry, apple)
  9. Milk and Cookies - (chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, chocolate chocolate, chocolate macadamia nut, peanut butter)
  10. S’mores - put together some more kit bags, or individually done s'mores with gourmet marshmallows pre-toasted to perfection
  11. Croissant - (plain, chocolate, blueberry, almond)
  12. Madeleines - (vanilla, orange, lemon, lavender)
  13. Danishes  - (Cheese, Cherry and Cream, Blueberries ‘n’ Cream Danish Braid, Cranberry-Orange Danish Braid, Berry Danish, Raspberry-Cream Cheese Danish, Cinnamon Roll, Nut Danish Pastries)
  14. Mini Belgian Waffle
  15. Éclairs
  16. Cannoli
  17. Tarts
  18. Cream puffs “Profiteroles”
  19. Meringue
  20. Tiramisu
  21. Gourmet-Flavored Marshmallows
  22. Chocolate mousse
  23. Crème brûlée
  24. Crepe Cake
  25. Cheesecake bites
  26. Ice Cream / Gelato

OK! I know there's a lot to choose from. Going through many wedding blogs, scouring recipes and bakers blogs. One thing that is always interesting is, when researching stuff on the Internet is the possibilities are endless. I hope this gives you some ideas to talk over with your coordinator or Baker. Any sweet treats you decide to have at your wedding will be perfect for you and your personal style.

Creating a backup strategy is that it can seem so complex and convoluted it’s difficult to even know where to begin. From clouds to closets to safe deposit boxes, the world of data backup has so many options it’s enough to make your head spin.

Here is our backup strategy we use to keep our photography safe!

  • Have three copies of your data.
  1. Keep them in two separate places. Hard drive (USB) & Online cloud
  2. At least one must be offsite.

After your gallery expires on our website. We put into deep storage for 5 years and don't touch them.

you paid good many for the photos and you don't what the loss the USB

DO NOT!!  ... DO NOT BACK UP YOU PHOTO TO FACEBOOK!! I say this because Facebook can cancel or black you from your page without telling you. Also; sometimes "friend's" can be mean and report you images and Facebook will remove them.

5 Quick tip to help you prepare for your engagement session https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2019/3/engagement-photos-5quick-tips Help you prepare for your session and have fun.

  1. Finding a Photographer
  2. Location
  3. Clothing
  4. Grooming: Hair, makeup, Nails
  5. Preparing your fiancé

Your engaged and super happy and it is that time to get some photos done. But where do you start?

1.Finding a Photographer

1.1. Look for a photographer that you like their style of images.

Things to look for

1.2. Posing style - do you like more free movement or do want help getting in the poses

1.3. Editing - Do you like how the images are edited “HD” look, “dark and moody” or “bright and airy” let them know with one you like for there portly so that can make notes to do that edit still to for photos. It is important because some of the edits still need to be photography defiant then others.

1.4. Ask what are some option to display the images.  If you can pick just one, may want to ask about what kind of album options are available.

2. Location!

2.1. Have some ideas of where you would like to have your photo done at

2.2. Would you like water in the image, Buildings / Urban landscape, open field, Arizona Red Rocks or Organ beaches?

2.3. Do you have family land you would do the session or are you about to use the wedding venue?

3. What to wear what to were?

3.1. Depending on the location and feel of the session, you what to have its feet with them. If you are having an urban skyline at sunset you may want to have a cocktail dress or is the stay is funky you can go for a hipster vide. Like flow ball bottom slacks and blouse and he can wear a dress shirt rolled up slides and, vast and sad shoes.

3.2. Coordinate colors : (look aired your house and see what color you have the most of that maybe your favorite color. Ware the colors that will be in the wedding.

3.3. Coordinate with the location:  If you are doing on a sailboat in San Diego you why want to ware locale them outfits. A flower dress wild look great for their do to the wind on the passive Pacific Ocean.

Look at our Board for Ides

Woman’s: Lulus Clothing
Men's: Amazon

4. Makeup and Grooming:

4.1. Most brides do a trial run on the wedding day makeup or their engagement shoot.  If you don't were done ware make often it is not a bad idea to go to L`ancome makeup counter to get a natural look done. Foundation, mascara, blush, and nude lips and make a Big difference in a small way.  Grooming, most barber nowadays, offer brad grooming, trim and shaves. There is not quite like have a pro work on your man's beard or shave.

4.2. Nails: engagement session with be doing some images you both of your hands to show off the RING! It is a good idea to get a basic manicure done for both you and him. Some men think that they are going to get pink polish on the hand, but that not the truth. Let your man know that is they are going to do is even out their nails and clean up the hand nails and cuticles and fiche with a matte lacquer “polishes”.

4.3.Hair: Textured hair spray and a curling iron can go along what when it comes you have your hair done. Do your own hair as if you were doing out on a romantic date with him. The chance is you will be going out to dinner after the session... Besides why wouldn’t he, with you look ing like that all dressed up.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR MINI SESSION https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2018/9/Perparing-for-a-mini-session

We are so excited to offer our fall mini sessions this year and we can't wait to work with you and your family!

Here’s a few preparation tips for a beautiful and fun mini session : )

  • What to wear?

    • Plan in advance to try on your outfits, make sure they fit the session https://www.pinterest.com/brubakerphoto1/fall-outfits/

    • Of course, this is completely up to you! Though if you are looking for some suggestions we do suggest to stay away from very loud, busy patterns, as well as too many competing colors

    • Choose coordinating colors but not “matchy, matchy,” otherwise over matching can look like one very busy pattern in the picture. Try neutral colors with soft, flowing fabrics….

      • FALL COLORS creams, very soft pastels, oatmeals, light browns, tans, grays, and slate blues are always easy to style

    • Watch out for the distracting little details such as:

      • bra straps showing

      • lint on black clothes

      • hair flyaways

      • lipstick on teeth

(We do our best to edit some of these little things out, but some in some situations it isn’t possible.)

    • There will be a little bit of walking to our exact spot, so if anyone is not accustomed to wearing heels we encourage bringing a pair of comfortable flats

  • What do we bring?

    • First, bring any props you'd like!

    • If you have a baby/toddler, definitely consider bringing a backup outfit, just in case; as well as snacks, toys, or things that keep the kiddos happy : )

    • Bring water or juice boxes. Never fails, children turn into camels I need excessive amounts of water or juice for some reason. when it’s time to do photos.

    • A small bag for loose items while you're being photographed. (i.e., phone, keys, wallet)

    • BRING A GO BAG: In your photo shoot; It's always a great idea to have a hair brush and a little hairspray with you to tame last minute fly aways, and a few makeup essentials for any needed touch ups just before the shoot

    • If you'd like to get some fun shots sitting or lying down then bring along a blanket that won't clash with your outfits

    • Bring wipes to clean faces! (And do a last minute check of faces) The camera catches every detail on close ups

  • Preparing Your Child

    • Use the bathroom before getting to session location. Before heading out of your house double check to make sure there is somewhere to use the bathroom right before the location. We try to do our best to pick locations that have bathrooms that are easy accessible. But little ones are sometimes unpredictable and win they need to use it.

    • If children are included in your session make sure they are well rested the night before or a good nap if your session is later in the day.

    • Make sure they have been fed at least an hour before the session, so they are not hungry and grouchy (This also applies to hubby!)

    • Let everyone know there is a photo shoot with a few days notice so it is not a surprise. One great way to get them excited about the session is to practice some poses together.

Most importantly: be happy and excited! This day is about you and your family. Don’t stress, relax and have a little fun! Some goofiness and giggling can make for a great image. Children (and hubby) can sense stress and anxiety, so if you're relaxed it will be much easier for them to enjoy the day.

  • Saying this twice, because it’s important ... Don't surprise dad/ hubby  with this idea at the last minute!

    • We definitely know many of the men out there aren't quite as thrilled about a photography session as the women are. However, we have found in our experience that it is much better to let him know why you want to do this shoot, and how much it means to you, instead of just trying to drag him along ;)

  • Holiday Cards!

The collection you will purchase comes with the option to add printed holiday cards.  An order of any size features a free, professional holiday card design that features your images.  We have multiple designs for you to choose from!

Once your order is placed we will design, print, and ship your cards right to your door.  Many of our clients find these cards as a "must have" convenience in this stressful time of the year.

We are looking forward to working with you!

ROSE GOLD AND DONUTS | Davidson Wedding https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2018/1/ROSE-GOLD-AND-DONUTS-Wedding

Kristi and Joel are a very sweet loving couple. During our meeting, I asked them where was there the first date. The first date was at the local Starbucks. “He had me at LATTE!” said Kristi.  Both Kristi and Joel work at the police department. Kristi is a dispatcher and Joel is an officer. Who would’ve known that the love your life was at work? You may have talked to him every single day and did not know it. Even though they work in the same place they don’t get to see each because she is in the office helping others and directing law-enforcement to go help those in need.

Wedding Day:  When I arrived at the venue it was absolutely breathtaking.

Kristi filled the reception hall with pink, rose gold, and Ruby colors and sparkly twinkly things anywhere they would fit. SPARKLE, Sparkle, sparkle!  Joel and Kristi’s dog Ruby could not make it to the wedding. So every tabletop had an adorable picture of their pug Ruby. In all of her outfits. I got the pleasure of meeting the Ruby of the hour at the engagement session we did in June. Such a sweety.

Kristi was getting ready in the Corpus Christi suite her and her bridesmaids fill the room with laughter. Before we walked out the door Kristi had to put on some perfume. “I need to be Viva La JUICY!”  Kristi said. As a plume of perfume covered her. Giggles….

One of the highlights of the reception was the Starbucks and donut bar. They had them custom-made that morning so they smelled amazing with the coffee. Until I left that evening, I don’t think anyone ate the tie-dyed doughnut because it was the prettiest doughnut. Every time I see this photo of donuts I get very hungry.  Mmm…. I’ve never seen such beautiful donuts in my life.

While everyone was eating dinner and watching the sunset Kristi and Joel were able to sneak away and have a moment and watch the sunset…. “Love you a Latte!” wipers felled the air.

3, 2, 1 "I DO" ! HAPPY NEW YEAR'S | Stacy and Justin‘s New Year's Eve wedding https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2018/1/321ido-happynewyearswedding

New Year’s Eve wedding are always fun and the party goes on all night long.

There’s something about New Year’s eve night that is magical in its own way. But when you are also celebrating someone’s wedding it becomes more than just counting down till midnight. About celebrating a new life together and it feels like the party never ends. The celebration goes on the cheers and good wishes fill the air and not only for the bride and groom for everybody happiness, love, it doesn’t feel like goodbye it feels more of a hello.

As we celebrated the new year and welcoming Stacy and Justin to a new beginning and 2018 snow fell from the sky as if they were being blessed. Not everyone gets to have a snow exit. The magical moments just kept happening for these two.

Behind the Scenes

I Arrived in Austin a day early and I was hoping for good weather for the wedding day. As wedding day approached I was happy it wasn’t going to rain but there was a high possibility that it would snow. The day prior to the wedding it was overcast all day and 38° was the high. Wedding day that I was 35° with Wind gust making it feel like it was 30°. Still very overcast. So Plan B sprung into action. Trying to get as many outdoor location shots as possible. We had to move inside. The coordinators at Memory Lane did a beautiful job setting up the ceremony site. Adding twinkly lights to the inside of the venue and having drapery fabrics. That would’ve been at the arbor outside. The aisle was covered with white rose petals and candles. Setting the scene for a very romantic ceremony. All the table toppers were New Year’s eve themed with clock set for midnight. The room sparkled with silver and accents of plum purple.

Making it on the cover https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/4/making-it-on-the-cover I are so excited to be on the cover of the Texas wedding guide magazine. This issue was their very first issue as a 8.5x11 full-size magazine, and it's their 30th anniversary helping brides find vendors for their dream wedding.

Being on the cover has been a long time goal of mine ever since I started Photography. Even though I've been published in multiple magazines, there's no feeling like getting the phone call saying that one of your photos was selected to go on the cover. Eeeek! Excitement, heart racing, tears.  The first two people I called when I found out were my grandmother, who introduced me to the world of for photography, and my mom, who has always been supportive no matter what emotional state I was in, and who always pinned all of my art to the refrigerator. Mom is going to need some strong magnets to put the magazine on the refrigerator!

Every time I send my work to others for magazine content I hold my breath when I get a copy in the mail wondering what photos were selected, and where they lie within the magazine. Did they pick my top favorites? The tension of waiting can sometimes be unbearable! Yet I find myself are resubmitting every time.

So happy!

Why Engagement photos? https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/2/why-engagement-photos

Ring ShootRing ShootBrubaker Portrait wedding photographic style is artistic, lifestyle, editorial, and documentary photography. We are there to capture every moment of your wedding day.

Engagement sessions can be done at any time no matter how long or little time you've been engaged. Engagement sessions usually last an hour to an hour and a half. It's best if you have a location in mind; for instance, like where your first date was, a favorite park, where your fiancé proposed, or just where ever you feel the love. Any of those make a great location for an engagement session, but if you're drawing a blank on where to go Brubaker Portraits has several pre-selected locations. Our locations are the 360 Overlook , Austin Skyline, Austin TX SoCo, Texas Hill Country, and a few different wineries.

Now if you're asking yourself "why are engagements session so important?" There is two reasons. First is so you get to know your photographer better. The other is so that you could have images of you and your fiancé in a relaxed setting without the hustle and bustle of your wedding.

The photos from the session have a few wonderful options as well. For example, imagine a professional portrait of you and your fiancé on the wall which you can look at for many years from that time before you were married. Adding a 16 x 20 hanging picture in your home or apartment is always nice to have, or to give to your family. Another idea some of our brides have is a fun album made from the engagement session photos, and using it as a guest book at their wedding, engagement party, or just to have on the coffee table to look through. In fact, I've had some of my couples make thank you cards for guests and family after the wedding.

Finally, don't forget about "Save the Date" cards. These modern type of cards are sent out as early notifications announcing your engagement, with slightly less formal feel than wedding invitation, but all of the important information your guests need, like wedding venue, date, websites or hashtags for your wedding. "Save the Date" cards serve as an extra alert to friends and family.

Below are just a few ideas for you!

Stephanie and Eric's engagement shoot https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/9/stephanie-and-erics-engagement-shoot Bill "my assistant" and I went down to SoCo very early Sunday morning to photograph Stephanie and Eric's engagement session. The sun was just awaking and the neighborhood was rising up and going to the local coffee spot. Joe's Café or more famously known as the "love you so much" wall art.

This was the first time I met Stephanie, though previously we exchanged lots of email. I actually met Eric first. He was so sweet, explaining how hard Stephanie works and how much he appreciates everything she does for him before he signed the contract.

Eric was dressed in his military dress uniform and Stephanie wore a pretty royal blue dress so they matched. Stephanie personalized her outfit with a stunning pair of red pointed to high heels. Stephanie is so happy to marry in October she's like a bottle of champagne overflowing with joy. Being around Stephanie and Eric, there is no doubt about the love and happiness they have for one another.

After we finished photographing in front of the "love you so much” wall art. We worked our way down south Congress, taking a break alongside San Jose hotel. The green vines that cover the wall along the hotel really cast a luscious look to the photographs.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is where Stephanie and Eric are getting married. Stephanie told me about a photograph in front of the church her family has of her and her parents when she was a child; she wanted to duplicate the image, so we found an opening in the fence and re-created a similar moment.

Brides Preparing for Bridal Expo in 5 steps https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/9/brides-preparing-for-bridal-expo-in-5-steps

Congratulations! You’re engaged, now where do you go from here? Bridal expos /  Bridal Extravaganza and open houses are very good ways to find out what you want for your wedding. Both are similar in purpose, though different in size, and are similar in how they are laid out, with many vendors in booths along rows.

Here are five steps to help you find what you want.

1) Have a plan to move around the expo floor. If you just run around without a plan, it ends up feeling like a lab rat in a maze. You can zigzag in parallel to the vendor rows, starting from the left or right, and plan for breaks to talk over what you’ve found so far.

2) Make a priority list of what you need. Lists usually include: venue, photographer, videographer, DJ, dress, food, cake, flowers, limo, and fun entertainment or performances.

3) Set a date. Setting a date is hard enough to pick by itself, but what are you going to do if your favorite venue is booked? Have two or three options for dates you would like to get married on and work from there.
Note: The more time spent on the wedding day, the faster vendors book up!

4) Book at the show. Most vendors are ready to book your wedding that day. If you're just getting information, let them know and ask for info to take home or have them email it to you. Most brides make address labels with their information on it name ,wedding date, address,  phone number, and email.

5) After the show, you have lots of info and brochures to look over, and hopefully you have now whittled down the your choices to three potential vendors per category needed for those you haven’t already booked. Contact the vendors and schedule a meeting with them. It is important during your meeting to let them know your wedding date and your price range. If you’re still not sure about your wedding date, remember to have a two or three date options, and tell the vendor those. Be honest about your price range, but be suspicious of vendors who do not have openly listed and immediately available prices. Nothing is more discouraging to you and your vendor when you find out that your favorite vendor doesn't have your wedding date available or they're out of your price range.

By following these steps you should have a fun experience at a show or open house, and  remember to relax and have fun planning your big day. Let the professionals help you have a fabulous wedding day.

Krystal and Justin engagement shoot on top of the world https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/9/krystal-and-justin-engagement-shoot-on-top-of-the-world A few weeks ago Krystal and Justin came to me, asking me to photograph their engagement session! They wanted to go to the 360 Loop Pennyback a bridge and have downtown Austin in the background.

Save-The-DateSave-The-Date
I met Krystal and Justin at the bottom of the bridge to begin their photo shoot with something a little more simple before going up on top to see the Austin skyline.

Save-The-DateSave-The-Date Save-The-DateSave-The-Date
It was such a hot day, but it was nice being underneath bridge, it was cool and refreshing. The park underneath the bridge has such a summer time feel that only way I can describe it is "magical".

Save-The-DateSave-The-Date
After a steep climb to the summit of the Pennyback Bridge Lookout, it was worth every step to see the view. As I was beginning to shoot, a storm rolled in.

Kristen & Justin were on top of the world. It felt like, at any moment, these two would float away together and they would go wherever the wind will take them.

Chateau on the Creek: Crystal + Paul Wedding https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/8/chateau-on-the-creek-crystal-paul-wedding
All photos artsticly tacken

This last Saturday I got to photograph a very special couple: Crystal and Paul. Crystal and Paul have known each other for a very long time since they were children playing kickball. As the years went by Crystal and Paul stayed in contact, never knowing that they would one day get married.

On August 15, 2015 Crystal and Paul officially declared their love for one another at Chateau on the Creek, a beautiful Texas landscape in Round Rock.

Crystal booked me as her photographer one month to the date of her wedding. I was on short notice because a previous photographer did not work out for Crystal. I'm thrilled she chose me, and it was a pleasure to meet her photography needs.

For her wedding, Crystal chose pool blue for her 8 bridesmaid and 8 groomsman to wear. The girls went to the next level and accessorized themselves with pool blue atomizers (eCigarette vapers) and purses to match their dresses. Altogether, they were probably the largest group I've ever photographed. Vanity Fair definitely inspired the large group photos!

Paul and Crystal had their "first look", or, may I say, "first touch", before the wedding, concealed from each other behind an antique screen as Paul's father read a love note from the family Bible. A love note which Paul's grandparents wrote when they were married a long time ago. So many tears, so many deep breaths. It was beautiful to witness.

All photos artsticly tacken

No matter who you were at the wedding it felt like family. There were heartwarming speeches from the maid of honor and the best man that left people in tears, laughter, and tears of laughter.

Paul and Crystal were able to have a special moment by themselves underneath the big oak tree behind the venue. The tree was wrapped with twinkling lights. Tears of happiness overwhelmed both of them as they danced to Frank Sinatra.

Every step of the way, Crystal and Paul made it fun for friends and family as they said goodbye under a bridge of sparklers, running down the stairs, and into their limo.

The Knots - Glossary of Photography Terms https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/6/the-knots-glossary-of-photography-terms https://www.theknot.com/content/wedding-photography-glossary

Do you know the difference between a first look and a shot list? Read on to decode all the terms your photographer will toss around.

When you start meeting with potential photographers, it can sound like they’re speaking another language. Learning their lingo can help you clearly communicate what you want your album to look like, as well as help you determine if a particular photographer is the one who can deliver what you want. Before you head to your first appointment, get up to speed with the terms you need to know.

Boudoir shoots

This sexy set of photographs is usually done separately from your soon-to-be-spouse and given to them as a gift. Unlike the rest of your wedding album, these aren’t meant to be shared with anyone but each other—but you can bet they’ll be fun to look at privately for years to come!

Bridal portrait

Traditionally, the bride would go to a photographer’s studio a few months before the wedding to be photographed in her gown (perhaps even holding a replica of her bouquet). While this is now less common, some women still choose to pose for this formal shot so they can include it in their wedding announcement. A modern take on this is the engagement shoot.

Wedding PhotographyWedding PhotographyBrubaker Portrait wedding photographic style is artistic, lifestyle, editorial, and documentary photography. We are there to capture every moment of your wedding day.

Day-of slideshows

Your photographer can quickly create a slideshow of images from the ceremony and cocktail hour and project them onto a big screen during dinner. Guests will love looking at what they just experienced (and at themselves!), plus it will give them plenty to talk about at the tables.

Digital

One of the first decisions you’ll need to make is whether you want your photographer to shoot with digital or film (see below). Digital is the most popular way to shoot. The major advantage is time—depending on your photographer, you could see snaps just days after your wedding. Digital cameras can also shoot in very low light—a perk when you’re photographing an afternoon-into-evening wedding. And thanks to a display screen, your photographer can preview shots and adjust accordingly as he goes.

Engagement shoot

This has become a very popular add-on to photography packages. Not only is it a great way to get a sense of your photographer’s style (and make any suggestions or voice concerns before your wedding day so he can make adjustments), it’s an easy way to capture a perfect image for your save-the-date or wedding website as well. Take your shoot over-the-top by choosing a theme (from chic Breakfast at Tiffany’s to medieval Game of Thrones), or just give it a little flavor with some fun props, like balloons, pennants, umbrellas or a tandem bicycle.

First-look photos

This set of shots, which is done before your ceremony, captures the first time you and your about-to-be-spouse see each other all dressed up on your wedding day. Doing a full set of photos (with you, as well as your families and wedding party) beforehand frees you all up to fully enjoy your cocktail hour post ceremony (making it an increasingly popular option!).

Film

Film is your other option if you don’t want digital. Images shot with film have a soft, organic quality to them, but shooting with film is, well, more work -- and more money too. In addition to purchasing rolls of film, processing and editing images take time. Some photographers will shoot both film and digital, so you can get the best of both worlds.

Photo booths

This popular form of entertainment for cocktail hour and receptions has become mainstream, and couples are finding fun ways to personalize their photo booths. Variations include: modern ones that upload photos directly to social media, retro versions that print Polaroid prints automatically or full-service companies that bring a personalized backdrop and props.

Shot list

The best way to ensure your photographer captures all the moments you want is to provide a suggested shot list. Your dress hanging up, a close-up of your groom waiting at the altar, your mom helping you get dressed and your grandparents dancing are just a few of the type of shots to include. Of course, the style and number of these images will all depend on the photographer you've chosen and how long you've hired that pro for. Hint: Choose around 10 photos you absolutely must have—dozens will only be confusing on the day, and the photographer already knows the standard shots most couples want to see.

Style

Your photographer is going to ask you what style of photography you like and show you the types he specializes in. It will help to have a basic understanding before you start flipping through portfolios. Here are five main styles and what you need to know about them:

Artistic

With this style, the photographer’s unique take allows for a different perspective (for instance, the couple may not be looking at the camera). If you don’t want your photos to look like anything you’ve seen on Pinterest, go with a pro who is eager to use a little artistic license to tell your story.

Classic

Like the ones in your grandparents or parents’ wedding album, these are the images that stand the test of time—striking, gorgeous and a bit formal. Classic photos reflect reality (similar to documentary, below), but they’re infused with the shooter’s artistic license.

Documentary

Rather than posed or highly styled shots, documentary photography captures candid or spontaneous pictures of people, décor and action—in the moment. These shots feel intimate and "real."

Wedding PhotographyWedding PhotographyBrubaker Portrait wedding photographic style is artistic, lifestyle, editorial, and documentary photography. We are there to capture every moment of your wedding day.

Dramatic

Lighting—especially using an off-camera flash—is a key component of dramatic photography. If the sun isn’t cooperating, the photographer will use lighting equipment to capture the same gorgeous effect.

29-3029-30

Lifestyle

This take on wedding photography is mostly candid with some direction and style—the end result being beautiful but relaxed. A good photographer will look for moments but also help set the scene.

Alexandria and Gage https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/6/AG
Saturday June 6th, I got to photograph an amazing couple; Alexandria and Gage. They had their photo shoot was in downtown Austin by the restaurant Perla at 7:30AM for a sunrise shoot. What a beautiful morning.

Well before I go any further I need to tell you about Alexandria and Greg. They have such a sweet story. Two years ago Greg got out of the military and he and Alexandra made the decision to move to Austin to start their new lives together. They are so happy to be here in the live music capital of the world.

I have to give them both props for waking up so early. But it was worth it! It was nice and breezy out, clouds were in the sky, it had a refreshing spring morning. To really capture their feelings for one another I took him down to downtown Austin where the I love you so much wall art is. We had a great time walking up and down the streets and going into the little courtyard at Hotel San Jose so they could have a little private moment

Erika Keen Portrait Shoot https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/5/erikakeenportraitshoot

A few weeks ago I photographed Erika
She is approached that wonderful age of 50+ and fabulous! As she was getting hair make up done she talked about, how she says normally she doesn't do hair and make up that often so this is a real treat for her.

Throughout her shoot we applied make up 3 types of make up. One was every day normal make up for the business outfit. The second one was going going out to eat or to the club for the white cocktail dress. The final look with the ball down, I wanted was a full out glamour. Dark smoky eyes red lips. Erika felt like she could walk the red carpet.

Studio portraits

Erica talked about how her only little girl just turned 10 years old and is starting to like to play dress-up. Erika says that she can see how her daughter is starting to have so much fun. Who doesn't want to get any ball down and twirl around and look pretty for a day.

The white and gold dress is my favorite of this shoot. Erika definitely knows how to rock that clubbing going out and having fun feel. In the series of photos you can see the dedication towards her body. You can definitely see that she had the most fun in the dress. In post production I wanted to create a organic feel to the photos and what I came up with what I like to think of as a ice affect.

When we move to the last outfit, her great evening down. I wanted to capture movement. Because this dress was also formfitting so I had a coral chiffon wrap that we had fun and played with during this portion of the session. Erica had fun dancing with the chiffon wrap in creating lots of nice movement. I was able to go Into post processing and edit the wrap by hand painting it.

Jessica hiler and her girls https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/4/jessica-hiler-and-her-girls What a wonderful way to celebrate Spring. Jessica and her two girls McKinley and Lindsey had their session in the bluebonnets. I forget how much fun I have photographing kids and their family in an open field of wild flowers. There's just something about having children playing and the flowers  smell wonderful, you get to see them imagine and dream of a different place. Like Wizard of Oz.

Even though Lindsey is a stepsister she still has lots of responsibilities being the older sister. that's why I'm calling this photograph big sisters secrets.

A model in the makeing https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/4/amodelinthemakeing Nicolette came into my studio the other day really excited to tell me that she just got signed as a model, I could not be more happy for her. So I gave here a more edgy look to the classic photos, so she could add them to her portfolio

Before and After

The wind blown look was something I wanted to add to here folio, but my fan broke. Oh no! So I used the hair dryer same look, buy maybe a bet hot. Hahaha!

Nicolette is a quit sweet person, but when you till her to work it someone totally different comes out. I know when she starts getting print work the other photographer will have enjoy photographing her.

Mikeshia Ruiz https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/4/mikeshiaruiz A few days ago I got to figure this unique lady Mikeshia. I met her at Starbucks here in Austin. when I saw her I can for my card and simply said that "I'm a portrait photographer and I would really enjoy photographing you" several emails later she came to my studio and we had a wonderful time taking pictures. She brought her two friends one was a makeup artist name Sunshine.

Mikeshia was really excited when I brought out the light pink peonies flower hair clip that I made. She saw the one of Becca's which was red peonies and she couldn't wait to put the flowers in her hair for her unique flower portrait.

The post processing of this photo shoot is turning out to be really fun I've been playing with a couple new techniques and I'm really liking the results with her photo shoot. I decided to make her a banner style photo. When I was finished it turned out to be 18" x 33" so needless to say I need to resize it but at least we'll have a really nice photo to put on her banner on Facebook.

Vanessa's photo shoot https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/3/vanessas-photo-shoot  I did a shoot a few weeks ago with Vanessa. I set up the shoot little different than I normally do with the lighting. I set my soft box further back than I'm used to. Every now and then you capture that look where you're not quite sure it's a smile and you're not quite sure it isn't a smile. I like to call this the Mona Lisa smile shot.

Normally I lay out the shoot while they're getting hair and makeup done, but  that day I had no make up artist. So I got to improvise and be make up artist.
I love playing with make up. Almost as much as I love playing with photography.

Mr.Buddy's painted portrait https://brubakerportraits.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/3/buddy-painted-portrait It was one of those days where nothing was going on and buddy just needed some one on one attention. After playing for a while with ribbon decided take a break on the bed. Accordance with the light hitting him the way did I could not read this but to grab my camera and take a picture which then turned into a long photo shoot of how many shots gonna take the cat before he gets mad at me and said up. He slowly learning that taking photographs of him at his adorable stages is not going to stop.

Going through all the photos and enjoying looking at how cute he can be. I picked this one to play with them Photoshop. A few things I noticed before I started the editing process was his right I was a little dark and you could not see The green in his eye so I simply just copied and flipped the left die and placed it on the right-hand side. After that I was trying to think of ways to edit the photo and lots of options came about but my favorite one was just go ahead and paint the whole thing. Two days later I finally finished buddies Image.
